Berghaus

Running across a continent is not an easy task.  When you are physically and mentally tired you notice tiny, insignificant things that would never normally cross your mind.  You don't want to be tormented by rubbing, chaffing or itching kit!  For this reason its really important to use the best gear available to you.  I was very fortunate to have support from Berghaus for my trans-African run.

My favourite piece of kit is the Women's Ilam Insulated Down Jacket (pictured to the right).  This jacket packs down to approximately the size of a guinea pig!  Which I feel is pretty small for a jacket that gives you so much warmth.  Berghaus haven't opted to leave out the hood to save on weight and size either, so you can get even warmer.  They have also not compromised with pockets, this jacket has two good sized high pockets on the outside and one on the inside.  The zip comes up pretty high around the neck and the hood closes in snug around your face.  The elastic around your wrists is also at the perfect tightness to keep you comfy and warm without feeling too tight.  The jacket is made of really soft, silky material.  At first, I thought it looked pretty thin and I thought I would probably rip it as I am not the most gentle of people but it has proved to be pretty robust.  Through my trip across Africa I got it into quite a mucky, grubby state.  I machine washed it recently and I have managed to get out almost all of the grime.  I also have to mention the colour choice.  I love it when women's clothes aren't pink!!!

Another product which I absolutely love, and is featured in most photos of myself (and is regularly attached to me!) is the Vapourlight mesh cap.  It is super comfy and perfect for running in the heat.  I always wear a cap when running in the sun to prevent sunburn, and wrinkles!  This cap did come too big for my head so I had to sew on an extra piece of velcro, but I do have a super small head.  The style and colours are great, and even the white completely cleaned up after being dragged across Africa.

The Berghaus Women's Vapour Long-Sleeve Zip-neck T-shirt is the most comfortable long sleeve sports top I have ever worn.  The material is soft, silky and stretchy.  Thought has definitely been put into designing this top for women specifically, it has great shape to it.  It has some kind of odour eating technology which I tested pretty intensely in Africa, and it seemed to work!  I think I only washed it once, or possibly twice, in the whole three months and it never stank.  The only negative aspect to this top is the length.  I found it didn't quite cover my hips, I do have a very long torso though, so I'm not sure if other people would have the same problem.

Berghaus have been a name that I have been familiar with throughout my life and I have very much associated that name with high-quality.  I have never really had the luxury of owning Berghaus kit myself, and I feel very privileged to be in a position where they have helped me.  I am so grateful.  Berghaus, I can't thank you enough.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
