Flaxtastic (triptych) - Original Acrylic Painting
Inspired by the West Coast flax plants.
This acrylic triptych is inspired by Harakeke (flax) growing along the wild West Coast — blades rising and bending with the wind. Each canvas captures a fragment of the same landscape, inviting the eye to travel across the panels like wind moving through flax.
Layered acrylic textures echo the toughness of the leaves — thick, expressive strokes contrasted with softer, printed botanical impressions beneath. Earthy greens, muted sage, and coastal neutrals reflect the grounded palette of the region, while subtle patterning hints at the life woven through the undergrowth.
Split into three parts, the composition speaks to connection — separate panels forming one cohesive whole. Like flax itself, strength is found in structure, flexibility, and deep roots.
This piece explores resilience, belonging to place, and the quiet power of native landscapes shaped by the elements.
Each canvas is 25cm x 25cm.
