frequently asked questions
Do I need to run at a certain pace?
No. While our weekends are social events we do need to make sure that each participant can complete the sessions without the group being spread too far apart. It's necessary that you can complete a 25km hilly trail run within 4 hours. We'll often regroup during our runs to allow everyone to connect. Nobody will be left behind. If you're not sure that you can complete this please contact us to discuss.
Will all the participants be staying at the same accommodation?
No. We have left accommodation booking up to you. Reefton has a wide variety of options for accommodation. If you'd like to see what's available please look through the Reefton website.
Will there be time to look around the town or have time to myself?
As every person is unique we've factored in some downtime so you can recharge your social battery if needed. This is also an opportunity to look around Reefton, perhaps have a coffee or explore our quirky shops.
I'd love to ride-share to get to Reefton. How can I find out if someone is coming from my hometown?
We'll set up an optional Messenger group leading up to the weekend so all participants can chat. This would be a great opportunity to see if anyone is coming from the same location as you and possibly book accommodation together if wanted.
How big are the groups for your weekends?
We want to keep the group size small so we can give you our full attention and allow participants to get to know each other well. Some of the trails in Reefton are narrow and steep so safety is a priority here. We keep our groups to a maximum of 12 people.
Do you offer women only weekends?
At this stage we aren't offering women's only but it is something we'd consider in the future along with other specific weekends.
What kit do you recommend I bring on the runs?
Just like any adventure in the hills, surprises can happen at any point. It's always sensible to have extra kit with you in case the weather turns or you have an accident. The kit we'd recommend is:
-a pack/race-vest to carry everything
-up to 2 litres of fluid
-waterproof jacket
-warm upper body layer
-any specific first aid kit you need (we'll carry a group kit)
-whatever nutrition you usually consume on long runs
-phone
Can I wear road running shoes?
The West Coast can experience a lot of rain meaning the trails can be quite muddy and slippery even after a dry spell. It's highly recommended that you wear trail running shoes for safety.
Will the weekend be cancelled if bad weather is forecast?
We won't be cancelling due to rain or cold. We're very passionate about showing off the beauty of our local trails and rain won't detract from that. However, if there's an emergency weather warning then we may have to cancel for safety reasons.
Can I get a refund if I decide not to attend?
A full refund will be available to you if we cancel due to safety, or minimum numbers not being met. If you cancel less than 30 days before the event then no refund will be given.
